Orissa High Court Seeks Urgent Action on 700+ Unsafe Buildings in Cuttack

The Orissa High Court has directed authorities in Cuttack to take urgent action against over 700 unsafe buildings identified in the city. Acting on a public interest litigation, the court ordered a joint inspection by the Municipal Corporation, Development Authority, and other officials. So far, 12 buildings have been declared unsafe, with more under survey. The court instructed submission of a status report by August 14, 2025, detailing action taken under the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023. High-risk zones include areas like Nimchouri, Nayasarak, Buxi Bazar, and Badambadi, where structural collapse risks remain a serious concern.
