Andhra Pradesh’s Town Planning Overhaul Slows Down Building Plan Approvals

Dated on: Friday 9th May 2025

The Andhra Pradesh government's revamp of town planning regulations, aimed at curbing corruption and improving the approval process, has unintentionally slowed down building plan approvals. The new system requires licensed technical personnel (LTPs) to design, upload, and monitor plans. However, the introduction of strict penalties, including criminal liability for accidents during construction, has led to reluctance among LTPs. As a result, the number of building plan applications has dropped, with only about 100 applications being processed in April, compared to 300-400 in previous months.
