Kerala RERA Awards 16.65% Interest for Delayed Flat Handover

Dated on: Tuesday 28th July 2026

The Kerala Real Estate Regulatory Authority (K-RERA) has directed a developer to pay 16.65% interest to homebuyers for delaying the handover of residential flats. The authority held that developers are responsible for delivering possession within the agreed timeline and must compensate buyers when commitments are not met. The ruling reinforces the accountability of builders under the Real Estate (Regulation and Development) Act, 2016, and strengthens consumer protection in the housing sector. By granting interest for the delay, K-RERA has reaffirmed that homebuyers are entitled to fair compensation when project delivery is postponed without valid justification.
