Haryana RERA Orders Builders to Compensate Homebuyers for Project Delays

Dated on: Tuesday 28th July 2026

The Haryana Real Estate Regulatory Authority (HRERA) has reaffirmed that homebuyers are entitled to compensation when developers fail to deliver flats within the promised timeline. In recent orders, the authority directed builders in delayed housing projects to compensate affected buyers for financial losses caused by prolonged possession delays. HRERA observed that developers cannot avoid their contractual and statutory responsibilities by citing internal or external reasons for project setbacks. The rulings strengthen consumer rights under the Real Estate (Regulation and Development) Act, 2016, and reinforce the principle that timely possession is a legal obligation, ensuring greater accountability and protection for homebuyers.
