Tamil Nadu RERA Introduces Stricter Penalties for Misleading Real Estate Advertisements

Dated on: Friday 3rd July 2026

The Tamil Nadu Real Estate Regulatory Authority (TNRERA) has introduced stricter rules to curb misleading real estate advertisements and improve transparency in the property sector. Under the new framework, developers and advertisers may face penalties ranging from ₹50,000 to ₹5 lakh for publishing false or deceptive promotional content. The regulations also require advertisements to prominently display the project's RERA registration number and QR code, helping buyers verify project details before investing. Effective from July 1, 2026, the initiative aims to strengthen regulatory compliance, discourage unfair marketing practices, and enhance consumer confidence in Tamil Nadu's real estate market.
